Description

Desert Jasper belongs to the Trigonal Crystal System. It is a variety of chalcedony, which is a form of microcrystalline quartz. Unlike large quartz crystals with visible facets, Desert Jasper’s structure is composed of countless tiny quartz crystals tightly interwoven, giving it its dense, opaque, and richly patterned appearance.

This stone forms primarily through sedimentary and volcanic processes. Silica-rich fluids percolate through volcanic ash, lava flows, or sedimentary rock layers and gradually solidify over millions of years. The unique swirls, bands, and patches of colors in Desert Jasper arise from variations in mineral impurities such as iron oxides, manganese, and other trace elements.

Desert Jasper is sourced from Madagascar, where it was first discovered in the early 2000s. Its striking multi-colored patterns—often described as earthy reds, browns, creams, and ochres—reflect the island’s diverse geology and rich mineral content.
