Yellow Apatite Crystals

Yellow Apatite’s name comes from the Greek term apatao, which means to deceive. The main reason for this name of all Apatite’s is due to it being mistaken for other gems. Originally found in a particular area of Mexico where it was mined out, it has now been found in many locations all over the world, including United States, Canada, Norway, Russia, and Brazil.

Yellow Apatite has a Hexagonal crystal system and is in the family of the Apatite Supergroup. Specifically, the Belovite Group. It is a honey yellow to a greenish yellow in it’s coloring. Generally it grows in columns but when a bit of phosphate was contained in it’s mix they can sprout tiny leaf crystals that are very opaque.
