Larimar Healing Qualities, meanings and uses, including the associated Chakra, the Crystal System, Application/Use, Zodiac Affinity and associated Folklore.
5th or Throat Chakra
Color of light blue
Sanskrit: Vishuddha
Larimar aids in opening up our throat chakra and helps to promote our self-confidence. It will also encourage us to express our deepest truths and fears and is extremely helpful in disolving any self-imposed blocks and self-sabotaging behavior we may be having an inner battle with.
While primarily used at the 5th (Throat) Chakra, it is also a great benefit at the 4th (Heart) Chakra by embracing love and joy, and for opening up the heart. At the 6th (Third Eye) Chakra it can aid you in contacting angels or to connect with the Goddess. And finally, at the 7th (Crown) Chakra it helps us find creative ways to accomplish our soul purpose in this incarnation as it encourages spiritual connection.
Crystal System...
Larimar is a form of Pectolite (a sodium calcium silicate mineral) and has a Triclinic crystal system. It's coloring is blue, bluish-white, white, and also contains areas of gray. It has formed in cavities within basaltic lava and can sometimes contain vivid red-brown hematite inclusions.
Larimar is also known by other trade names such as the Dolphin Stone, Blue Pectolite, Atlantis Stone, and Stefilia's Stone. It is named after its discovery location in the Filipinas Larimar Mine, Los Checheses, Sierra de Baoruco, Barahona Province, Dominican Republic. It can also be found in areas of the U.S., Italy and England but does not bear the trade name of Larimar, but its true name of Blue Pectrolite.
Application...
Due to its slow acting nature, Larimar can be worn for long periods of time. While the best effect is at or near the Throat Chakra, having it on your body or carrying in your pockets offers good benefits as well. In meditating with this one I did need to have 3-4 pieces in each hand for a good effect. It's not uncommon with stones that have a high calcium/sodium content to have to use larger pieces to really feel the energy.
Spiritually...
Larimar helps women specifically to call upon the goddess within to fully manifest their highest purpose in life. When used in a grid it can bring serenity into your environment and to bring a message of loving energy to those residing in the spiritual world.
Emotionally...
Larimar can be an awesome emotional cleanser and healer. It is especially helpful in dealing with phobias, panic attacks, stress-related imbalances, or excessive anger. It ca help us reconnect to a more natural state of childlike play and joyful energy. At the Heart, it can assist in breaking down the walls we may have built around our heart for defense by allowing a smooth emotional release of what caused the need for those defenses.
Mentally...
Larimar helps to release stored negative feelings like angry thoughts, remembered pain and other detrimental emotions that are not benefiting you but continue to swirl around in your head. In releasing these unwanted thoughts, a calm sets in and it becomes easier to acknowledge these feelings for what they are and to move on more peaceably. Basically producing a calmer and more peaceful state of be-ing.
Physically...
Larimar has been shown to be very helpful for cartilage and throat conditions, and to dissolves blockages of the head, neck and chest. It may also be laid on constricted joints or arteries to provide relief from stiffness or inflexibility.
Zodiac Affinity...
Larimar has a special affinity with Leo but benefits all signs. Its Energy is Receptive, its Planet is Neptune, and its Element is Water. A great one for those involved in public speaking, singing and performing.
Folklore...
I found a mention that while originally discovered in 1916, it was named by the Dominican who re-discovered it in 1974, taking the first letters of his daughter's name, Larissa, and the Spanish word for the sea, mar, to create Larimar. While a lovely story, it would seem more accurate to be named after its mine location.
I also found reference that it is an excellent stone for seeking a soul mate, and it facilitates the healing of past life relationships or heart trauma. Since I'm single, perhaps I should give that a try. Hahahahaha! Nope. I am very happy on my own, so I'm probably not the one to research that aspect.
