Finding Focus With the Unique Makeup of Septarian

Septarian and Finding Focus with it's unique makeup

Ahhh, Septarian. With all the new goodies coming in over the past two weeks I found myself a bit scattered. Actually, more than a bit as I moved from one package to another, oogling and ah-ing and saying hello to all my new rock friends. I was totally distracted and wasn’t accomplishing a whole bunch, until … I opened the crate with these beauties.

One in particular became my new best friend and attached itself to my left hand, and I couldn’t put it down, even if I had wanted to. It was comfortable, I felt grounded, and after a bit no longer even realized I was holding on to it.

I sorted, counted, weighed, photographed and updated all the new goodies. ALL the while holding on to my little friend. As I sat to write this I realized what it had provided me with and chuckled and then called him sneaky. “I see what you did!”

I have to say, usually stones in the Calcite family are not so fast acting, but I think the unique combination found in this one has a much quicker reaction time.

Septarian promotes the ability for an earth-plane focus. Aids in completing one thing at a time before moving on to something else. It helps with procrastination by grounding scattered or diffused energy. It assists in moving us forward on our life path in a focused direction with certainty, and calms, grounds and centers.

Crystal System…

Septarians are a unique combination of Brown Aragonite which has a rhombic crystal system, Calcite that has a trigonal crystal system, some limestone, and some clear to white Barite. It was formed between 50 to 70 million years ago as a result of volcanic eruptions. The tumbled variety I carry has come from Madagascar.

Decomposing sea life that had been killed by volcanic eruptions was attracted to the sediment around them and formed mud balls. As the ocean receded, the balls were exposed to air and sun which caused them to dry and crack. They also shrank at the same time trapping the cracks inside. As decomposed Calcite from the shells was carried down into the cracks in the mud balls, Calcite crystals formed. This thin wall of Calcite then transformed into Aragonite separating the heavy clay exteriors from the Calcite centers.

Folklore…

Septarian crystals have been used to communicate with Mother Earth. She then provides an unconscious knowing to the user to be prepared for things that are about to happen. It is also reported to be of good assistance in opening communication between members of a group allowing all to speak clearly and kindly.

Some sources attribute the name Septarian to the Latin name, Septem, meaning seven, relating that the mud balls cracked with 7 points in every direction, thereby creating the beautiful design. Others to the Latin word “saeptum”, which means a small wall or enclosure. I have to agree with the second translation. In counting edges in the crystals I have seen, the “7” points did not seem to be a consistent characteristic and the second translation seems to more accurately describe how they form.
